Andreas Gabalier
Andreas Gabalier is an Austrian singer, songwriter and musician, born on November 21, 1984 near Friesach and raised in Graz as the second of four children. Before becoming a full-time artist, he studied law, all while composing and performing songs in his free time. His passion for music eventually led him to develop a distinctive sound that blends traditional Alpine folk influences with elements of pop and rock — a style he famously refers to as Volks-Rock’n’Roll.
Gabalier’s breakthrough came in 2009 with the release of his debut album “Da komm’ ich her,” which quickly gained attention and established him as a rising star in the German-speaking music scene. Over the following years he released multiple successful albums and became known for powerful live performances, emotional storytelling, and a strong personal identity rooted in Austrian culture.
Some of his most popular songs, including “I sing a Liad für di,” “Amoi seg’ ma uns wieder,” and “Hulapalu,” became major hits and turned him into one of the best-known contemporary folk-rock artists in Europe. His track “Amoi seg’ ma uns wieder” in particular resonated deeply with audiences, as it was inspired by the tragic loss of his father and younger sister, adding a heartfelt and personal dimension to his repertoire.
Today, Andreas Gabalier is celebrated for revitalizing regional music traditions and transforming them into modern anthems that appeal to both young and older audiences. His trademark leather outfits, energetic performances and unmistakable dialect have made him a cultural icon in Austria and beyond, with a devoted fanbase and a career that continues to shape the landscape of German-language pop and folk music.
